Cav are a good way of holding flanks and to flank themselfs as you probably all no but you can allso set trams with them. trap one use ure archers as bbait and hide ure cav in woods then as thier cav charge you then flank with them. another trap is to hide youre cav in the woods and ass the enimy infantry walk past charge ure infrantry to the front of thier lines then charge ure hidden cav into the back of thier flank brakeing thier lines.

As easy as it sounds we will show you just how easy it is to avoid such an attack should someone do it to you.
And never walk near wooded areas unless you sure they are empty and void of such traps

Tips and Pointers for RTW - Please post here! Empty archers in rome

Post by jhart Fri Dec 24, 2010 8:47 pm

although archers in rome total war are inaffective against the urban cohorts they can do all kinds of damage to cavalry in the case of a cavalry charge putting ur archers behind, warbands or any counterforce. the archers can cause the enmy cav to completly retreat ot at least deal a lot of damage.

This is true however in most online battles your archers are always in front. Make sure you have them ready to run incase of the occassional charge. keeping your infantry in front often leads to loses.

Tips and Pointers for RTW - Please post here! Empty foot soliders in rome

Post by jhart Fri Dec 24, 2010 9:07 pm

for beginners much like myself rome is a good army to use a fully upgraded unit of urban cohorts can resist attack from missiles cav and most other infantry. berserkers are still a problem though,
dont take any of my advice which could be dodgy or basic to heart just have fun =] but rome is a good start,

Tips and Pointers for RTW - Please post here! Empty know the strenghs and weaknesses

Post by jhart Fri Dec 24, 2010 9:12 pm

you can judge an opponent on the choice of his/her army in rome, for example if ur opponent chooses rome they are probably going to charge you as romes cavalry are realy effective but if somone uses greece or macadonia chances are they intend to camp as the falincs make a good defence if set up properly.

Tips and Pointers for RTW - Please post here! Empty barbarians.

Post by WarriorOfBritain Sat Dec 25, 2010 10:18 am

in my opinion the best barbarian faction to be is the gauls simply because of thier archers. they are easy to set up traps because they are anty cav. as the cav try to attack them hold down alt and they will destroy the enemy cav

Tips and Pointers for RTW - Please post here! Empty rome total war falinks

Post by jhart Sun Dec 26, 2010 6:34 pm

falinks (i dont know exactly how to spell it) are a good source of both cavlry and infantry resistance, bunching the in a square with archers in the middle is definatly a good idea as you hare protrected against cav, inf and you can fire back test this tacvtic and see if it suits you

It might seem good to new players, but this tactic is seen as not honourable. If you want to make yourself unpopular in the RTW community this is the way to do it really.
My advice is too never do this as you will fail anyhow against any decent opponent you face.

The term used is a noob box - it might seem like a gud idea but you have no idea how easy it is to break.
The last thing you need is a crushing defeat when doing something as simple as making a box and camping

Tips and Pointers for RTW - Please post here! Empty cavlry

Post by jhart Tue Dec 28, 2010 5:05 pm

some armies have god cav some armies have bad obvious i know, but you need to know the decent cav from the bad cav. romes cavlry is best when you have the unit with the most cavlry in it. this is the same with all but if ur egipt, briton or other armies like that have way more foot than cav because youll only loose use warbands instead
